D-LEITE, softness and sensitivity with milk fiber

Milk fiber was patented at the beginning of the 20th century by a German chemist, it is a recently used yarn in the textile world.

Due to the World War and the fact that it was more expensive than cotton, it was not widely used. Relatively few years ago its use was resumed and the research of Anke Domaske, a German designer, managed to polish the possible flaws of this milk fiber, so that today it is increasingly taken into consideration.

Casein fiber is extracted from leftover sour milk or human consumption surpluses. It is a sustainable material, so no chemical processes are involved in its production and water consumption is very low. It is mixed with other natural substances such as beeswax to compact and obtain the material for spinning.

The milk protein is dried, boiled, and through various biological processes that are kept secret. It is then converted into a dry powder that is compressed to make an ecological fiber, shiny in appearance, very soft, respectful of people and the environment, similar to silk.

The first countries to use this fiber were Japan, Italy and the United States.

In the case of our workshop, we are more interested in incorporating the use of ecological fibers that produce clear benefits for users and the environment. Milk fiber is a highly absorbent, antibacterial, antiallergic and biodegradable fabric.
